Well, although I have lots of years of experience as a teacher in a variety of fields, this is my first year focusing intently on the first grade Math curriculum. I have come up with a couple of conclusions (based on my very limited expertise in this area). Many of my conclusions are tied to the unique individualized environment within which I teach, but one is probably applicable to all, that is that first grade and younger needs to be treated in a completely different way when it comes to Math adoptions because of the students' developmental level. Everything has to be hands-on and concrete - not abstract. Any Piaget afficcionados willing to confirm or contradict that conclusion?
